I thought I would share Brian's poem on here because it is so funny!

AN ODE TO HULSE CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS

(If you weren’t a part of it… you probably won’t appreciate this Ode)

When it all started is anyone’s guess,

We suspect Ted and Sherry know more or less,

About the “Traditions” that this fine Household keeps

(We’re talkin’ about Christmas, not Easter and Peeps).

From Snow in the back yard where you dare not tread

Lest your footprints be the ones to upset dear Ol’ Ted;

To the bright Red Stockings all exactly the same

(Except that is for the stitched, cursive name).

Do you recall the small Santa all cracked and old?

It’s now in Tennessee (at least that’s what we’re told).

Lebkuken and Pinwheels, Bread with chocolate and cherry

Who made all these goodies? Why our favorite elf – Sherry!

And who could forget the old bed made of feather?

It kept us all warm through the fowl Christmas weather.

The holiday card games with Hadlows and Giles,

Those were times that we remember with smiles.

How many times did you search the night sky

To see if the elves with your burned letter did fly?

To tell dear Santa of the things you were wanting,

But then on Christmas morn finding garments in your stocking!

Wassail spray from Avon we remember well,

How we would all gather for our annual “spray and a smell.”

Kentucky Fried Chicken as we decorated the tree,

And the antique birds we all longed to see.

Do you remember how into the attics we’d crawl?

To find decorations, lead icicles and all.

And perhaps your memory will work if you strain,

To remember the spot light with red cellophane.

Climbing into Ted’s bed when the hour was too early,

The threat of St. Annes if you didn’t stop acting squirrely.

Reader’s Digest Christmas album with fine artists you know,

“You have got no snow?! Down in Mexico.”

Ah the traditions we have in this house are so clever,

We hope they’ll continue in our families forever.

We hope you enjoyed our Hulse Christmas Rhyme

And we wish you the best at this Holiday time!

The Davis County Clipper has digitized some of their old newspapers in order to archive them. I came across this and there was a little blurb about the birth of Hazel. I think it might be her, anyway.
Check it out by clicking right here. (Click the word "here.") You should be able to see the paper from March 9th, 1906. On the left side navigation bar, scroll down to where it says Bountiful Briefs. It is the 21st little paragraph in the first column. Cool, huh!

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

It's at the Apple Chapel on
1500 South and 800 West
in Bountiful. In the Relief
Society room at 7:00 pm.

SEE YOU THERE!!!!

I got Mystie and Scott's wedding invitation in the mail today. I love the picture. What a great time of year to get married. I love autumn time. I think Mystie looks so beautiful in her engagement picture - I can't wait to see her in her wedding dress! I can't believe that she is already a grown up woman - I still feel like an awkward teenager most days and think there is no way that my little cousin can be getting married! I am really happy for her! :) Scott, you seem like a really cool guy and we are glad you are joining us Hulses!

ANYONE KNOW????

Does anyone know when Mystie is getting married? I have heard 16th or 17th....I asked the theater for the 16th off....I hope that is the night it is??!?!?!???

We are considering a farewell to our garden fairies party on Sept. 28th. I thoughtI would run it up the flag ppole and see who salutes it. We will probably have eveyone bring anything that fairies would enjoy. and since it is a school night, we would have to start at 5:30 P.M. If there is any interest out there, let us know. Love, Grandma Hulse.

Ahh, summer is here in all it's glory.
Hope this little poem don't bore-ee
A party is planned for a grandma dear
So all of the Hulses can stand and cheer
Cake and Ice Cream and perhaps some dips
Will quickly stretch out all our hips
On the very anniverary of her birth
We will meet with joy and mirth (Brian you bring the mirth okay?)
How about we meet at six?
A little cooler without the ticks (err, mosquitos)
Write this info on your arm
We will meet at a chicken farm
(Johnson's that is....)

Leave a comment so I don't have to call you! Call me if you have questions. See you then!

Great Party

Grandpa and Grandma Hulse want to thank alll our wonderful family members for the highly successful family party! The food was good and the company was spectacular. The entertainment was soooo great. My, we have such a talented family and we just keep adding more members. The neighbors were delighted. We will have a backyard party in August and one in September, then we will just hit the highlights of cold weather dates when we have to jam inside. However, anyone is welcome to visit us old folks anytime! We will feed you and show you a family video! Love you all!

Welcome Tennesee Hulses

Hey, Gang, We are getting together on Sunday at 6:00. Please bring either a salad or dessert. I have assigned rolls. We are hoping some will show up on Saturday to wipe off chairs, blow off the patio, (Hayden and Carter are experts at this)or if you are so inclined, just sit and visit with the 'old folks'. We want to show off Marinda's and Jamey's and Grandma's painting talents ie: the back porch, the front and back doors and the swing. We are all anxious to see Chuck, Shawna , and our sweet Charli. We are going to have another awesome family shindig at Grandma and Grandpa Hulses house this Sunday, July 13th. I think we are meeting around 6:00. I will try to bring my chalk and jump ropes for the kids. Grandma, can you give us some more details?

Sunday, July 6, 2008

Lava Hot Springs is canceled. We are meeting at Daron and Julie's Clubhouse on Saturday the 19th, from 10:00 -4:00 for all you that can make it. The family would love to see you. They have asked our family to supply 2 Desserts, a Salad and a dozen hamburger buns. If anyone is willing to go and could help out, please let me know. Daron and Julie's address is 4047 West Pinegrove Way, South Jordan. Dad knows the way. Because of Lacey's many opportunities this past spring, Grandma Johnson was hoping for a talent show......Nancy decided not to do that, but there may be Karaoke. I am hoping our family will once again be the ones that support everyone. I appreciate Aunt Nancy and the rest of the family for trying to accommodate us. Let us know if you can join us!

I've been feeling really patriotic lately, more than I ever have in my life. I think I am old enough and mature enough to understand the importance of the freedom and the rights and privileges I enjoy as a United States citizen. Sometimes as I read the news and hear about the sad things happening around the world, it makes me cry. I am so glad that I live in a peaceful place, that I could get an education and earn a career, that my husband is home with me and that we are a family. I am grateful for freedom of speech, for the right to vote, for the right to bear arms, for the right to practice my religion. I found the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key. He wrote this song in 1814 ( that is 194 years ago for the historically challenged). I thought I would include them for you to read. I didn't know there was a 4th verse.

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserved it a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

I helped my mommy change my crib into a toddler bed yesterday. I was very excited to sleep in it. So excited that I went to bed an hour late... and then I woke up at 5 a.m. and watched cartoons. No more crib for me!

Help! Dad (Steve) and I need to go on the practice trek this Friday. I wasn't going to go, but now need to check out the lay of the land so to speak. We are celebrating Hayden's birthday all day but need to find a home for the boys for the night. I guess Lacey will be alright on her own. Hayden was supposed to be playing with West Bountiful band in the evening, so he would need a ride to and from there. Do I have any takers for the boys? Please call me if you can help.

Life with The Donald

Here is what Kristen and I do in our spare time ... just hang out with the most famous TV personality of the year and his beauty queens. By the way, he is a great guy. Our firm has represented his joint venture with Phil Ruffin on the development of Trump Hotel in Las Vegas. He is very nice to Kristen and me.
As for the other photo here ... that is Miss Venezuela Universe. To quote a Sienfeld episode, those may not be real, but "they are SPECTACULAR!" All Kristen can say is "AYCARAMBA!"

All our marvelous posterity will be gathering this Saturday for a celebration of our ancestors who are not expected to be present. Please let Grandma Hulse know what you are bringing. Remember that we need paper plates, cups and napkins. Grandma and Grandpa will be providing sausage patties, muffins, milk and orange juice. If it rains, we will be inside and there will be a movie for the kids in the basement. We want to see you all there. I will be calling family heads to let their kids know because I don't want to spend all my time on the phone. Love to you all, Grandma Hulse.
P.S. It will begin at 9:00 A.M.

It was Brian's birthday this last Friday and he had to spend it going to long work meetings in Phoenix. I was just thinking about him and thought I would share some memories I have of him. When I was a little girl, I idolized Brian. I probably bugged him and drove him crazy, but the things he did to get me to leave him alone just made me like him even more. He would always call me "Buttcheese" and he would rub my head really hard with his knuckle. I have an image of him coming upstairs to talk to Grandma and all he was wearing was his tighty-whities (I think I was like 4 or 5 years old). And he would climb into bed with Grandpa and Grandma, which I thought was totally hilarious. He had a really cool airplane in his bedroom that hung from the ceiling and flew around in circles. When he came home from his mission, he gave me some coins he got from Mexico and I treasured them. I remember he had the coolest red Mustang. He has the funniest sense of humor - I love going to family parties just to hear what he is going to say and as a kid I looked forward to how he would make me laugh and laugh.
Brian, you've always been a good example to me. You may not even know it, but you were a major influence in my life. I always wanted to get good grades and go to college so I could be like you. You are a great uncle and an awesome all around guy and I am glad that you are in this family. Happy Birthday!

Beautiful Day

Thank you for the wonderful day you gave me. I was thinking about some of my growing moments in life the other day and was overcome with the realization of how much I have and what has been given me. If you are my child, hug yourself, because you are the biggest blessing I own. Thank you for your patience as I try to to grow up, too bad it wasn't before you did. I love you and again thank you for a wonderful day.

Opinion Survey

Would anybody be interested in a summer family outing - like maybe going to the zoo, going to a water park or Lagoon, going hiking or having a picnic at a park? Just wondering what everybody's thoughts are.

Also, when is the next extended family reunion? When are we going to see all the Schaffer and Hulse cousins?

Thursday, April 17, 2008

Last night, I put Lacey on a bus for San Francisco with the BHS choirs. I have been crying ever since. So I need you all to feel sorry for me and visit me sometime this weekend to cheer me up. How am I going to survive next fall? Scary Larry had better take good care od my baby girl. Steph, are the strawberries still on sale?

GOOD NEWS

Hey guys...I e-mailed Mari, and got the correct information about Aunt Gay. The tumor has not grown into her brain or any major organs. Only her cheek. If she opts for surgery, she may lose her ear, and some of her cheek bone, but the radiation very likely will take care of it. YAYYYYYY!!

Anti-Debi

Tuesday, April 8, 2008

Hulse family, we have sad news. Our dear Aunt Gay has been diagnosed with a squamous cell cancer in her face. It is in-operable. They are certain it has invaded her brain, and her facial bones. They have offered radaiation, but are not sure it is possible to apply it effectively. Also they can attempt surgery, but know that it would not get all the cancer. A decision will be made on Thursday. Pray for the family...they want her to be free of difficulties, but they would also rejoice if she can join her beloved husband Serge.

Wednesday, April 2, 2008

If anyone takes a newspaper and can save me the weather maps and forecasts, I could really use them for my fourth grade weather unit in science. Clip and save them and let me know if you have any. You are terrific.

Friday, March 21, 2008

ANYONE??? PLEASE???

There is a rumor of a reunion by Aunt Gloria's peeps. I am trying to procure kilts enough for our ment folk, and I have a really beautiful song we could learn in Gaelic. If Meg, and Hayden and OTHERS are willing..it can be accompanied on the violin and the recorder ( that's you Hayden) and I'm thinking Rich on the guitar. AN EE WEIGH....if you would like me to send a copy of it to your e-mail ....just send me a "song request" to stagenut@yahoo.com and I will send it. It really would be cool to perform...
